I Hate Weddings. The Aftermath.

Having an opinion other than the status quo can sometimes piss people off.

Weeks after having posting “I Hate Weddings” my boyfriend received a call. The acquaintance who inspired the post was demanding it be taken down.

I never intended her to see it, nor had I thought it was directly about her, given the story was just a catalyst for my message. None the less, an acquaintance (I can guess who now) somehow figured it out and (for reasons unbeknown to me) decided to share it with her.

How to be Amazing (or not)

Amazing is a state of being that is not easily achieved. Socrates and a few other (actually) extraordinary people sum-mated that a man of true intelligence is one that can recognize his own ignorance. The way personal development and self-help go on we should all be world leaders and millionaires. Realistically not everyone will do anything special in their life.

Critical thinking.

How to lose weight and still eat – Part 3

This is part 3 of my series on weight loss.

As I said before, I used to be twenty pounds  heavier and would like to share what I learned from losing it. I’m not professional in any sense, just an experienced person who has applied a realistic method to losing weight and keeping it off.  Unlike other sites which may list ten tips for good abs, similar to the Crap Detox series, this is designed to create a basic understanding about weight loss, food and lifestyle change. One that should, if you’re open to it, create a paradigm shift with regards to weight loss and its entities.

What to do when an Ex comes back

(And you wished they hadn’t.)

Recently, someone who I haven’t heard from for six years decided to Facebook me. (Let’s add that to the list of reasons why to hate social networking.)

After initially ignoring it, this “old relationship” kept poking and messaging me.  I wanted to explore this opportunity for growth. My curiosity and ego got the best of me and I gave a hesitant hello. Thankfully, after minor small talk I woke up and decided he needed to shag off.

Below is the message I sent and the lessons learned from this:

“Hey!

character flaws and their naysayers

Contrary to the know-it-all alpha female that ricochets off this site, I am very aware of many of my flaws. (And probably still disillusioned about many others.) One trait I’ve been warned about is my most predominant personality trait. I’m conscious of it and have struggled immensely to control, change and alter it. Like many people, I couldn’t seem to figure out how to remedy this character issue. After much internal deliberation I think I may have found the secret to handling character flaws.

Here’s the thing – and yes this thing matters to you too – this “flaw” just happens to also make me me.

You are what you say so

I know this guy. He wants to be a writer. Yea he’s good at it. He recently got accepted to Columbia grad school because he’s so good at it. Who knows he may be the next Jack Kerouac.

Check out his blog and comment too. (He’s unsure of his talent, nurture him with comments.)

Yet he, like many, looks into the future for validation. It’s like the blogger who has thirty visitors, wanting a hundred. Then when getting one hundred, wanting five hundred. And so on.

We must believe we are exactly what we want before we can become what is we wish to be.

My Brown Children

My love is a beautiful man. He has amazing olive skin and big brown eyes. His eyelashes are super long.  He is adorable. When people meet him they often comment how good-looking our children will be. I thank them, flattered by their compliment, yet I can’t help but think what else will they be?

Throw us in a pot and stir.

His mother is from Aruba.  With a Scottish/Venezuelan mother and a no-one-knows-from-where black father, she’s quite the island mix. His father is Puerto-Rican.

Love the one you’ve become

We’ve come a long way.

A ways away from what we’ve been.

Nice to see the road we’ve taken.

For it’s been a-changing.

Sometimes when we feel lost it helps to tip a hat to the progress we’ve made. Like an old movie a revisited past is remarkably different through older eyes. Feel proud of where you’ve come from and remind yourself of the changes you’ve made. You’re not the person you once were and can be better now because you know better.

That is, then again, if you choose to be.

How to Lose Weight and Still Eat – Part 1

This is the first of a series regarding weight loss, exercise and body image. Unlike other sites which may list ten tips for good abs, this, similar to the Crap Detox series, is designed to create a greater understanding about weight loss, food and lifestyle change. One that should, if you’re open to it, create a paradigm shift with regards to weight loss and its entities.
