Stimulate This

I recently received my stimulus check.

I originally intended to save the entire $600 bucks for my first vacation in seven years.

But I’ve given it some thought, and since I don’t really NEED the money (as in the real definition of neediness), I’ve decided to use a portion of it to help stimulate someone else.

I am going to donate $100 of my check to Kiva.org and I hope I can get other people to do the same.

Now if you’d rather donate it to another organization or individual, so be it. If you didn’t receive a stimulus or aren’t an American getting fed a few hundred bucks in hush money, I still encourage you to consider the idea.

I could give the speel about giving rather than receiving, but you’ve been fed that line before.

This is an easy way to do something for somebody else with money we otherwise wouldn’t have had in the first place.

Any attempt to Just MakeItBetter is one worth doing.

I’m gonna try to get other bloggers in on the action. So do harass your favorites about it and/or please click on the links below to attract my blogger friends’ attention as well.

Thanks all, I appreciate your support.

Let’s Hear it for Chain Mail

So Sydney over at Retirement: A Full-Time Job tagged me. I pretend to hate it but I really love it.

On with the rules:

  1. Link to the person that tagged you.
  2. Post the rules on your blog.
  3. Share four things in the following themes.
  4. Tag four bloggers at the end of the post with a link.
  5. Let those four bloggers know they’ve been tagged by commenting on their blog.

Now the fun:

Four jobs I’ve had:

  1. Waitress - the only way to get through college
  2. Marketer - love the strategy, not the industry.
  3. Farm stand attendant - I grew up in a small town and it was high school.
  4. Babysitter - I spend five hrs every Saturday with approx. twenty children ranging from three months to nine years. The ultimate baby fever killer.

Four movies I could watch over and over:

Seriously I could be here forever trying to figure this one out. I like/watch way too many.

Four places I have lived:

There’s technically only two locations: upstate and downstate NY. But in the past six years I moved thirteen times, so I think my nomad behavior counts for something.

Four TV shows I love:

I’ve become much more inclined to watch television since my boyfriend got an HDTV. It really does improve the experience.

Recently I’ve been into the following:

  1. The Wire
  2. Brothers and Sisters
  3. Jon and Kate Plus Eight
  4. Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares (the UK version)

Four places I have been on holiday:

I haven’t had a vacation in about seven years*, but I have visited:

  1. Spain
  2. France
  3. Miami
  4. Boston

* I hope to remedy this soon.

Four of my favorite dishes:

I live in NYC where some of the best food is, but if I had to narrow it down…

  1. Singas Pizza (if you’re ever in Queens)
  2. Shake Shack burgers in Madison Square Park
  3. City Bakery hot chocolate
  4. Balthazar (yes, the entire restaurant)

Four websites I visit daily:

  1. Smitten Kitchen
  2. Jezebel
  3. Facebook
  4. Popurls

Four places I would rather be now:

I am not really into the ungrateful tone of this question.

In a perfect world:

  1. Closer to a Pinkberry
  2. Already in my pajamas and washed up for the night
  3. Cuddling
  4. With more subscribers!

Ahh, screw that. It’s already perfect.

The Four Bloggers I’m Tagging:

  1. Rogue Ink
  2. White On Rice Couple
  3. In My Heels
  4. A Good Husband

“I Don’t Complain, I Just Change Shit.”

My friend spoke those words to me last night. I thought it was another nice way of saying make it better. It was also interesting option for a new tag-line for this blog.

Best of all it helped me sum up my feelings about what I am doing here with this.

Why I blog:

1. To inspire
2. To generate discussions
3. To create change
4. To get people thinking about their life, society, and our world
5. To learn some new things
6. To be able to write everyday and for others to gain value from it
7. To help people
8. To generate ideas
9. To grow
10. To end judgement
11. To open minds
12. To create independence

How you can help:

1. Email me topics you’d like discussed
2. Comment constructively
3. Be insightful
4. Share your ideas
5. Subscribe here
6. Share my content
7. Be yourself

I’ve always wanted to help people; for them to see the fabulousness in themselves, know their potential and exceed beyond it. Makeitbetter is one small step in my attempt to change the world, at least a little bit.

Join the revolution.

Giving Some Link Love

Some things I’ve been enjoying around the web recently:

A great Mommy blog for those that need some intellectual insight with their diaper changes.

Just a fabulous sight for those who aspire to be financially free.

An interesting take on how to talk to generation Y; perhaps like normal people?

Seriously, I still can’t believe this is tofu.

That Green Eyed Bitch

I’ve never really been too much of envious person; usually holding tight to the idea that “their success is not my failure”. Recently though, as I struggle to find my place in this writing/blogging world, I find that I am often detered by what others have accomplished. Inspiration and determination has not been springing within me as I am often deflated by the rising success of others.

The green dragon really likes to unexpectedly bite you in the ass, doesn’t it?

In not wanting to be an envious and hateful cod, I’ve forwarded my thinking to understanding why.

Well to start I’m disgustingly afraid of failing at this whole writing venture I’ve set upon and the more involved I get the more I uncover how much I need to learn (this road is getting long and intimidating).

But, isn’t that true about anything you want?

It wouldn’t be what you wanted if it were easy. Isn’t what we want the most what we believe we are farthest from? What we are passionate about is always something that we have to struggle with to achieve, because why would we ever aspire for something within our reach?

Maybe that means jealousy is your brain telling you:

“Yeah, you want that. Now just go out and get it!”

Allowing this jealousy to get to me isn’t going to help, and feeding into it is only going to create failure, so I might as well find some way to use these feelings to my advantage.

At least until I am able to get over them.

Subscribe.
