I tried to convince myself that Andrew Keen’s synopsis of blogging on the internet was not correct, but he was right. I agree with you that so many people clog up the blogosphere that it is hard to gain a footing.

My wife told me one day that I was essentially placing my work on the floor by blogging and that I shouldn’t be surprised when no one picks it up to read. When I was offered the chance to blog at Psychology Today I accepted it without hesitation.

My first blog post received 1000 reads in one day. 1000!!!

At PsychologyofSuccess it took me 2 1/2 months and 8 articles to get that much traffic. Venue, placement and where you offer your wares is everything. I hadn’t improved my writing skills in that short time period. I just placed my work in an environment where it would be respected and more importantly, sought after.

I hated the fact that I spent so much time working on blog posts and no one read them. As a former owner of a news website that received 50,000 visits per month and current owner of a hobby blog (Jiujitsu365) that receives 200 visits a day, PsychologyofSuccess was painful to operate. I hated trolling other websites commenting in the hopes they would visit my blog. I had never done that before and it made feel cheap.

I wrote this to say that if writing and sharing ‘goodness’ is your dream then you just have to find the right venue, whether online or off.

I agree with everything you said. I think that is my experience has shown me that. Sadly it’s also shown me I am not cut out for it. At least not in the present.

As someone who blogs for others, for a living, I am up to my eyeballs in SEO and monetization. I say it can be done, but you do have to sacrifice a certain level of authenticity. Becoming a superstar blogger that can make money with no SEO/ self marketing whatsoever, just by sheer charm and personality? Not going to happen to me, not going to happen to most bloggers. But there are ways to make money online, and I’m proof. I get to work from home, be with my kids when they need me, and make decent money. I’m content.

But continue writing..im enjoyin reading the posts,when u do post..;) and i know others..* even tho they dnt comment or say anything to u..* will miss the blog when u dnt write..:)
