What perfect timing! I just returned to the gym on Monday, after 4 months of being a SLOTH. Trust me, my muscles were aching but I'm already feeling better already. I'm not big on Twitter, but I'm using it to "tweet" my workouts.

Very good post and even better advice. I can substantiate what you are saying from my own experience. At one time I was 40lbs above my ideal weight. It's true, diet trumps exercise for absolutely certain weight loss, but a combination of both, is a sure fire winner.

Running was my thing, I did two marathons, until I got tired of the 50+ miles a week, as race time neared. It was dominating my life too much. So, I settled on a fitness level when I could run 10 miles anytime, about 3-4 four days a week. It gave me time to play other sports, which I think you need for all round fitness, and, as you said, to get rid of squishyness.

I tried several types of diet: high protein, steak 4-5 times a week for a year; then no meat just fish, veggies, lots of beans for another year. The almost vegetarian diet improved by marathon time by 50 minutes, but that diet was combined with more savy training too.

If you get the whole country to follow your advice we wouldn't have a health care crisis.

I'm pretty sure the only way to really lose weight and keep it off is exercise and eating healthy which flat out sucks because I am lazy and have a passion for all kinds of sweets. Cardio = my nemesis. However, after ready this post I feel inspired...Tomorrow's a new day and I really do think I can get it together on the exercising front... after I lay by the pool for awhile... ;)
